Schauer on Strategy

by Gene Smith
January 12, 2009 |

Over on the Adaptive Path blog our friend (and CanUX alumni) Brandon Schauer has posted the six questions he uses to discover an organization's business strategy. It's a smart and simple method for probing an organization and its approach to strategy.

The six questions are:

  1. What's their generic strategy?
  2. How is the business different from it’s competition?
  3. How does the business make money?
  4. Is their market growing, shrinking, or flat?
  5. What do they invest in?
  6. What do they say?

It might not work for every client--like those in the public sector--but it's a great start for digging into a business.

If you like this sort of thing, another Adaptive Path team member, Henning Fischer, will be running a workshop at our Web Strategy Summit in May.
