For the past couple of months we've been planning a unique new event and we're excited to pull back the curtain on it. The Web Strategy Summit is a two-day conference for web managers, executives, IT managers, developers and designers who are trying to get the most value from their investments in the web, mobile and other technologies.
The Web Strategy Summit will feature one day of practical workshops (May 4) and a one-day conference (May 5) with great keynote speakers and session leaders. We've already got four speakers lined up--Avinash Kaushik (Google), Jeremiah Owyang (Forrester), Christina Wodtke (LinkedIn) and Jay Goldman (author of The Facebook Cookbook)--with more to come.
Backstory
It might seem like a strange time to launch an event--the economy is in recession, new layoffs are announced almost daily, and oil prices (the backbone of our economy here in Alberta) are sinking. And yet, there doesn't seem to be a better time to talk about intersection of web/mobile/social media and value.
I've spoken at a lot of events over the past year, doing everything from keynotes to small workshops. Most of the events I've attended have been targeted to a particular business function (marketing or knowledge management) or a specific kind of role (like a designer or developer). Sessions on business, management or strategy are often given their own track, isolated from the rest of the program. There's nothing wrong with that--but in our consulting practice here at nForm we see our clients have the most success when they infuse business thinking into their whole process.
We thought there was a niche for a new event that
- puts strategy first and focuses on how people are using interactive technologies to transform their organizations and markets (stuff we think is really cool).
- is relevant to decision makers as well as designers, developers, marketers and other hands-on roles.
- makes sense in today's economy (talking about how you create value with your online investments has probably never been more urgent than it is today).
The Web Strategy Summit brings together those ideas into an afforable package. We also wanted to create a venue where people can talk about their strategy efforts and the impact they're having. So we're holding a call for submissions to give people (like you!) a chance to present their case studies and success stories.
Staying in Touch
We'll provide more details on the Web Strategy Summit in early January.
