As one might expect at a gathering of UX types, there were a number of iPhones on display at CanUX. Oh, there were Blackberries and other mobile devices as well, but they certainly weren't as visible. I made two observations that seemed to sum up the iPhone for me.
On Saturday night at dinner there were a couple of iPhones at the table. At some point Dave Gray began sharing his around so that people could see some of the apps. Gene promptly brought his out, cracked screen and all, and shared it around. Pretty much everyone at the table got a chance to play with one. Observation #1: I've never seen people do anything like this with any other mobile device.
On Sunday evening, during the design slam, I was walking around the room and I noticed an iPhone on the floor, plugged into the wall. On the other side of the room was another snuggled up to an outlet. Observation #2: I've never seen people do anything like this with any other mobile device.
Somehow, that seems to encapsulate the iPhone for me. Of course, I have a super-cheap pay as you go phone, so what do I know?
