PaidPOV Update

March 12, 2007 |

Last summer I introduced PaidPOV, a web-based research recruiting product we're developing. Here's a short description of the product from the post on my blog:

[PaidPOV is] a tool for research recruiting that will make setting up usability tests, focus groups and interviews easy and painless.

The first thing PaidPOV does is match you with people qualified for your study. After that it schedules appointments, sends out reminders, handles incentives and NDAs--basically it takes care of all the mundane tasks so you can focus on the research.

Since then we've been focused on building the product, but we haven't said anything else about it. Absolutely nothing, in fact. The short explanation is that development took longer than expected. I thought we would have a demo last fall, but it actually took us until Christmas. And we still have a lot to learn about building and supporting an application like this, as well as the community that grows around it.

However, we do have a version of PaidPOV in semi-public preview (you could call it a beta). And we've actually used it in projects--and that's been pretty cool.

I'm going to talk about PaidPOV on a panel at the IA Summit. I'll share stories about our development process, and talk about how we incorporated some game-design concepts into the product. I'll also elaborate on a couple of minor but unorthodox design decisions I made and their consequences.

I'll post more details here after the panel wraps up.
